Crossing station in the heart of Berlin

Fast access to the Berlin region and to European destinations

skip: Fast access to the Berlin region and to European destinations
For journeys within Germany or to one of our neighbouring countries, the Berlin Hauptbahnhof is Europe's largest crossing station. DB is anticipating a six million increase in long-distance passengers to 19 million by the year 2010.

With the increase in traffic volume, a new rail concept was needed for Berlin. Hauptbahnhof is Berlin's mobility hub and the core of the city's new rail concept. Situated in the geographical centre of the city, it is the only station that links up all the long-distance lines with regional transport and S-Bahn services.

The new rail concept for Berlin and the Greater Berlin Area was launched to coincide with the 2006 FIFA World Cup. On 28 May 2006, Deutsche Bahn's North-South Link with the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof and other regional and long-distance stations went into operation, bringing a great many changes to the region’s rail traffic. It is the most significant change since the Berlin Wall came down in 1989 and since the re-launching of the Stadtbahn line (section through the City) following its rehabilitation in 1998.
